-M.Thomas, art critic, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette For more than fifteen years Peter Exton has explored the potential of the wood lathe as a shaping tool. His discoveries have evolved from basic reverse-turning applications in furniture and accessories to powerful, complex sculptural works.
Exton has exhibited throughout the United States. A regular at the American Craft Council Baltimore show during the 1990s, he has also exhibited at the prestigious Smithsonian and Philadelphia Museum of Art craft shows. He received the first Innovative Use of Materials award presented at the Philadelphia Furniture Show, and was presented the Award of Excellence for Innovation by the Whitney Museum of American Art. He is a 2006 recipient of a Professional Fellowship Grant from the American Association of Woodturners. His work is in several museum collections.
